project management

best practices

As language professionals, we at Loc Camp, agree that the best practices for localization project management should include aspects like:

Project life cycle

Every project is managed and shared by a specially selected workgroup,to guarantee optimal linguistic and technical results – an experienced project manager acts as the primary contact person for each client. Our project manager is responsible for the project life cycle, from initiationto the closure.

Project Initiation 01

Project Analysis and Preparation

In this phase, the localization request is received from the client and assigned to a project manager who is responsible for:

  • Analyzing the project and identifying its scope
  • Checking that all the source files are complete and not corrupted
  • Ensuring that the files prepared for the translators are in the required format
Project Planning and Evaluation 02

In this phase, the project manager will:

  • Develop the project schedule and time frame.

  • Allocate the required resources to the project either for translation or DTP lifecycle.

Project Execution (Production)03

In this phase, the project production takes place and includes the following:

  1. Translation

  2. Editing/Reviewing

  3. Pre-DTP Localization Engineering

  4. Desktop Publishing (DTP)

It includes:

  • Adjusting the layout and master pages

  • Fixing the formatting

  • Applying the language- specific conventions

Project Monitoring and Control 04

In this phase, the Quality Assurance check takes place in which:

  • A Language QA Specialist reviews all the files.

  • Creates a draft PDF for QA, proofreading & revision purposes.

  • Performing a QA check on the target PDF file against the source file.

Project Closure 05

All the reports of the QA phase are sent back to the DTP specialist to apply them in the original files and regenerate the final PDF to be delivered to the client.
